Built in stages from the 1850's - 1870's, then undergoing an extensive renovation in the 1980's restoring it to its full 1880 glory, Green Gables is located in the center of Historic Downtown Jefferson, Texas.
From our front porch you can see the majestic Carnegie Library and the beautiful Sterne Fountain. We are a short walk from many fine restaurants, shops, antique stores, museums, and historic homes, plus easy access to guided historical tours by golf cart limo, horse drawn carriage, or the famous ghost walk. At Green Gables you will have all of Jefferson's charm and history right out your front door.
Each of our rooms has a private entrance and porch. You will have your choice of our gourmet breakfast brought to your room or in the lovely sunroom of the main house.
During breakfast, you are welcome to enjoy the sunroom if you choose not to eat in the privacy of your room. The sunroom features a watercolor of the Sterne Fountain and inspirational quotes from "Anne of Green Gables", plus lovely wicker furniture and romantic tables for two where you can have coffee and enjoy your gourmet breakfast while looking out over the garden patio.
Welcome
Upon check-in, you will be greeted in the Main Hall by your innkeeper. We are excited for your stay at our beautiful Bed & Breakfast
Green Gables of Jefferson has one of the largest and loveliest grounds in Jefferson perfectly manicured and ready for your enjoyment.
On the back garden patio, you can enjoy a relaxing drink and friendly chat surrounded by lush shrubs and flowers, shaded by the majestic 150 year old pecan trees. You can also relish a quiet moment at the gazebo in the secluded corner of the garden to contemplate your day in a simpler time. Evenings at Green Gables are even more romantic and memorable.
Occasionally there will be a fire in the firepit to set the mood as the evening lights come on illuminating the Green Gables' grounds. Also, the Historic Carnegie Library and Sterne Fountain come to life after dark beckoning you to come back to their days of southern culture and class. During a full moon, it all becomes even more spectacular as you feel yourself drawn into and becoming one with the whole experience - dazzling stars under the brilliant moonlight plus the sounds of tree frogs and cicadae all in chorus with the frequent trains that pass through Jefferson nightly whistling tales of bygone days. You will never forget a night in Jefferson.
The Parlor
ANNE'S ROOM
Named for Anne Shirley of "Anne of Green Gables", the parlor is reminiscent of that precocious Anne and her lovely Avonlea and days gone by when people visited with neighbors and chatted over tea and teacakes or even Marilla's raspberry cordial. Upon check-in and during breakfast, you will have access to the parlor and its library filled with photos of our ancestors and our collection of classic books. Feel free to relax a bit or grab a book to enjoy during your stay.
Our collection includes Dickens, Bronte, Wilder, Austen, and Twain. If you like mystery, maybe Nancy Drew or Christie is for you. We also have a collection of Civil War history and Jefferson history and lore if you want to learn more about local history during your stay. Maybe you will choose to borrow one of our various printings of "Anne of Green Gables" or Hawthorne's "House of Seven Gables" to make your experience complete. The main thing is to relax and enjoy your trip to yesteryear.
